Coppélia: The Story
Coppélia is a comic ballet with a lighthearted, whimsical storyline. The plot revolves around the love triangle between a young couple, Swanilda and Franz, and a mysterious inventor, Dr. Coppélius, who creates a life-sized, human-like doll named Coppélia.
The story begins in a small village where Swanilda and Franz are in love, but Franz is distracted by his fascination with the beautiful Coppélia, who sits motionless on the balcony of Dr. Coppélius's workshop. Believing that Coppélia is a real woman, Franz sneaks into the workshop to meet her, but he is caught by Dr. Coppélius, who plans to use him in an experiment to bring Coppélia to life.
Meanwhile, Swanilda, suspecting Franz's infatuation with Coppélia, follows him to the workshop. Disguised as Coppélia, Swanilda enters the workshop and uncovers Dr. Coppélius's secret: he has been trying to animate his dolls using magic. After a series of comedic and chaotic events, Swanilda exposes the plot and rescues Franz.
In the end, Dr. Coppélius is left disappointed, but Swanilda and Franz reconcile, and the two are married in a joyful celebration. The ballet ends with a lively, festive finale, celebrating love and the triumph of real human connection over artificial creation.
